Unlike a traditional electric water heater that generates its own heat, a heat pump water heater has the ability to transfer heat from one space to another (via “heat pump technology” – like an air conditioner). This greatly reduces the cost of heating hot water compared to a traditional electric tank. By transferring heat rather than creating it, heat pumps deliver hot water 3-4 times more efficiently than conventional water heaters.
